Society often describes failure as a black mark, something to be ashamed of and avoided at all costs. But what if those "failures" are stepping stones to success?
Think about it: countless successful people have openly shared their stories of repeated failures before achieving their dreams. So why do we get discouraged after just one setback?
Here's the truth: I've failed. Multiple times. And guess what? At 24, I'm sure there will be more failures on the horizon. But here's the key - those "failures" have ultimately led me to valuable life lessons and a clearer direction.
My Fails, My Lessons:
2012: Missed entry to the top secondary school. Instead, I landed in a grammar school, even winning an award! This taught me the importance of resilience and finding success in unexpected places.
2019: Failed the London university entrance exam. While disappointed, I found a supportive program at NTU, excelled in my studies, and won multiple awards. This emphasised the importance of finding the right environment to thrive.
2022: Graduation was below expectations, but I secured a job and independence. This highlighted the importance of celebrating small victories and practical skills.
2023: A failed US Master's application provided clarity on future goals. Sometimes, closed doors redirect us to better opportunities.
2023: Leaving a stable job without a plan forced me back home temporarily. This instilled the importance of thoughtful planning for life transitions.
2024 (so far): Job searches haven't delivered results. This period of reflection allows me to define what I truly desire in a career and a lifestyle.
The Power of Reframing:
Instead of viewing failures as dead ends, we can reframe them as opportunities to learn and adapt. They nudge us closer to the person we're meant to be.
Your Turn:
Share your own "failures" - moments that seemed like setbacks but ultimately led to growth.
We can all learn from one another on this journey of self-discovery!
